Progressives seem to love digging up the past in an effort to paint their enemies as backwards, on the wrong side of history, and misguided. However, they also try to hide their own history, which exposes them as champions of some of the most sadistic and twisted ideologies ever practiced by mankind.
Something that is beyond explanation is the excitement that elite Progressives now have over the idea of white people being exterminated or otherwise removed from the population. New York Times editorial board member Sarah Jeong promoted the hashtag #cancelwhitepeople, a sentiment that would never be tolerated about any other race or ethnic group, and rightfully so. It’s a terribly hateful sentiment, yet it is one that is promoted openly by many elite Progressives on Social Media, at press events, and even on television where it is often met with thunderous applause.
But a little digging shows us that this genocidal talk is not unusual at all for Progressive elites. In fact, the disgusting science of eugenics, forced sterilization, and removing an entire class of people from the face of the Earth was all the rage among Progressive Elites for decades.
In 1914, the belief in eugenics was so popular among the educational elite that a high school textbook, published by the largest text book publisher at the time has a section explaining the benefits of eugenics.
In the textbook, A Civic Biology, the author explains the idea of being “well born” and those that are not born well, including those with disabilities should not be allowed to have offspring and that the science behind being well born is called eugenics.
The book furthers the explanation with the following disgusting details.
Just as certain animals or plants become parasitic on other plants or animals, these families have become parasitic on society. They not only do harm to others by corrupting, stealing, or spreading disease, but they are actually protected and cared for by the state out of public money…. They take from society, but they give nothing in return. They are true parasites.
If such people were lower animals, we would probably kill them off to prevent them from spreading. Humanity will not allow this, but we do have the remedy of separating the sexes in asylums or other places and in various ways preventing intermarriage and the possibilities of perpetuating such a low and degenerate race. Remedies of this sort have been tried successfully in Europe, and are now meeting with success in this country.
As you can see from the above, some of those arguments are still used today by Progressive elites in America where they claim their bizarre ideas are already successful in Europe and therefore need to be implemented here. What they fail to mention is the “success” in Europe of eugenics ultimately became the motivation behind the Nazi led Holocaust where an entire race of people were targeted for extermination.
Progressives would also use another argument to promote eugenics that they still use today, and that is to declare that the science has already been settled on the matter. And that debate or questioning of the “settled” science meant you were against science and progress. This is an argument we still see Progressives making today when they claim scientific consensus on issues where no such consensus actually exists, and many times the scientific evidence they claim is often ultimately proven wrong.
Not all proponents of eugenics were Progressives, but an overwhelming amount of support did come from Progressives as George Will outlined here, eugenics lines up with the Progressive beliefs of full faith in governments and rejecting the Founding Fathers natural rights doctrine which believed that man’s rights were bestowed equally by the creator and natural…not given by government.
The Progressive excitement for eugenics continued for decades. Progressive icon and founder of Planned Parenthood was also a supporter of eugenics. In her speech “My Way To Peace” she outlines her plan to segregate and forcibly sterilize entire sections of the American population. In the speech she says… “the whole dysgenic population would have its choice of segregation or sterilization.”
This “dysgenic” population as she called them included everyone from those with low IQ, paupers, and those with medical conditions such as epilepsy. In her words, this would add up to be about 20 million Americans at the time that she believed needed to be forcibly sterilized or face punishment.
So as we can now see today, Progressive history is repeating itself, and once again showing that Progressives have not really “progressed” that much at all. Once again they believe that by exterminating an entire class of people, they can finally obtain the Utopia they always promise. But as history has clearly shown us, when you dabble in eugenics you don’t end up with a utopia at all, but instead are left with horrors and suffering that lasts for generations.
